Torbay Housing and the Inglewood development
Torbay Housing and the Inglewood development
The Labour Party Local Campaign Forum covering Torbay and Totnes constituencies has put out the following statement regarding the Inglewood Inquiry:
Labour calls for affordable rents
People should have a right to a decent, secure home. Since 2010, the Conservatives have slashed funding for new homes, refused to regulate for higher standards and given a free hand to commercial property developers. This will get worse if proposals in the White Paper come into law.
Torbay Labour believes the only way to ensure everyone has a right to a decent home is to build publicly funded social housing. In a low wage economy like Torbay so called “Affordable Housing” is still way out of reach of most local people. Labour is calling for a commitment to “affordable rents”, improved standards, which address environmental concerns and which take account of community needs, schools, shops and leisure facilities, for all new developments.
Whilst we welcome new housing in Torbay, Labour has major concerns about the Inglewood development and supports the objections being made by Brixham Town Council and the Brixham Neighbourhood Forum at the present public inquiry into the proposed development.
