Torquay elects new Womens’ Officer

The recently elected Women’s Officer for Torquay Branch has issues the following statement:

“I have yet to find out more about the role as I am very new to it but I really want to help encourage women to come forward in support of the Labour Party; to engage women in politics and empower women to be able to feel they can have much more of a voice in government and how it is run. I will be helping to promote women’s issues to the larger membership to ensure women are represented in all areas of policy and decision making.
I recently atended my first Torbay Executive meeting and it was great to see that the Executive are encouraging women to come forward to take up positions and making sure that there is equality within the local Labour party.
The Women’s Officer role is still very much new to myself and the other Women’s Officers. We are planning to get together to hold some events locally to encourage other women to join but also express how and what they would like raised within the Labour Party and Government.”
