Labour is bringing ‘REAL CHANGE’ to Torbay!
Labour offers more security and eases the cost of living in our Bay...
Labour's Renters Rights Act means no more Section 21 'no fault evictions,' making people renting private homes more secure. So tenants and families who rent finally have real security. Reduction in household energy costs: Households are starting to see a reduction in their energy bills which means a fall of £150 on average because of changes in ECO levies. Labour's Warm Homes Plan: Offers retrofit funding for Devon Homes, targeting fuel poverty. It provides funding to install solar panels, battery storage, heat pumps and insulation to slash energy use. This is good for our pockets as well as our environment with less harmful gases being generated by our energy use.
Labour's 'moral mission' brings hope to the Bay!
Labour has abolished the two child allowance cap: The biggest welfare change for nearly a decade lifting 450,000 children out of poverty and helping their families live better. After all, children are our future, if we neglect our children, we neglect our future.
Education
Free breakfast clubs are rolling out in Devon, helping children start the day ready to learn. Funding for new school-based nurseries applied for by Devon schools gives better early years access. Labour Child Poverty Taskforce supports Devon children, allowing schools to offer wraparound care which supports working parents. More apprenticeship opportunities in Devon: Local colleges like South Devon College and Exeter College can work with the Labour Skills England Programme, boosting vocational pathways to work.
Labour is better for our pockets!
Minimum wage rises of 4.1% which is above inflation and will support the carers, hospitality workers, seasonal and retail workers in the Bay. The State Pension rise of 4.8%: Protects our older residents from rising costs, a real need in our Bay with its large retired community. Rail fares are frozen which provides practical, everyday help for people who rely on public transport for work or leisure. Prescription charges are frozen, which protects those on regular medication from rising costs.
Environment
New penalties for polluting water companies will strengthen local campaigns against sewage discharges into the Bay. Making our water safe to bathe in. Labour offers grants to Devon farmers to enable the new farming scheme, supporting sustainable practices and food security. Labour's Flood Resilience Taskforce unlocks local funding for better defences in flood prone areas. Labour has removed barriers that blocked solar and wind projects, supporting clean energy schemes to progress in Devon.
Better rules mean cleaner local water...
Our beautiful beaches in the Bay are cleaner thanks to Labour! As is our drinking water with water companies being made accountable for negligence to our health and environment. Which protects the future of the Bay and local businesses now and into the future.
Employment in the Bay...
Labour's planned changes to employment rights include: * Banning exploitative zero-hour contracts * Day one rights to sick pay and paternity leave * Stronger rights to flexible working * Improved protection for agency workers.
Defence
Labour's new Armed Forces Commissioner supports military families across Devon, including those near Plymouth and in rural communities. The largest pay rise in decades for service personnel benefits armed forces households in Devon.
Labour is strengthening our NHS in the Bay with its 10 year health plan so we're fit for the future!
Labours New Hospital Programme has confirmed plans to rebuild Torbay Hospital. Main construction is scheduled to start between 2033 and 2035. It's now easier to get a GP appointment at your local surgery. There has been a digital transformation: Moving from analogue to digital to free up staff from admin tasks and allow patients to manage care online at GP surgeries. Neighborhood Health Centres have moved care into our communities, making local hubs the primary point of contact which reduces pressure on A&E. Dental Access has improved: Widening access to NHS dental treatment. Labour are reducing waiting lists: Implementing long term structural changes to reduce wait times permanently. Technology adoption: Using AI and modern technology to streamline services bringing our NHS into the 21st Century. More doctors recruited as well as mental health care workers across the Bay and UK-wide.
Labour are tough on unauthorised immigration without dividing our communities...
Nearly 60,000 unauthorised people have been sent back to their country of origin since Labour came to power. Unauthorised immigrants make up about 1% of our population in the UK. It's a tiny fraction, that are not responsible for our country's decline in public services...14 years of austerity under the Tories and other avoidable errors are what has robbed our beautiful British Isles and our Bay...and certainly not desperate refugees fleeing persecution.
Labour seeks closer ties with our European neighbours to strengthen defence and economic growth...
The world at times seems a little more uncertain with all this talk of war. The Russian invasion of Ukraine continues to burden the world stage. So it's important we strengthen ties with our European neighbours in defence, as well as trade and we find a common sense approach to overcome our hang ups with Brexit. Having a closer working relationship with Europe is good for defence, good for business, good for our economy and it's in our national interest. It's also good for the Bay! Torbay is designated as the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark, connecting it to a wider network of geological and heritage sites across Europe. Torbay is partnered with two European towns, Hamelin, Germany and Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands. These partnerships continue to foster cultural, educational and commercial exchanges between our communities.
Growth in our economy is good for Britain and its good for our Bay!
Figures from the Office for National Statistics showed over the first three months of 2026 GDP rose by 0.6%,, up sharply from growth of 0.1% in the final three months of last year and making the UK the fastest growing economy in the G7. The economy also grew by 1% compared with the same quarter in 2025. In March this year, figures showed a growth of 0.3% GDP significantly better than economists' forecast, in light of the unpopular Iran war where they expected the GDP to shrink by 0.2%. Labour are making the right decisions at the right time for our country, helping to boost our economy in times of uncertainty.
Torbay deserves a government that works for everyone - Labour is delivering real change in the Bay!
